What is Adventure?

At Adam’s Camp Adventure, our mission is to create the BEST atmosphere for FUN, one that also fosters both camper independence and teamwork with peers through exciting adventures and engaging activities. Our goal for 2020 is to make Adam’s Camp Adventure accessible to as many families as possible, year-round. To accomplish this goal, we have added activities to the schedule, giving your camper more opportunities to interact with their peers while learning new ways to grow and overcome life’s obstacles.

Many campers may feel certain goals are unattainable. But at Adam’s Camp Adventure, we work on unique approaches with our campers to help them realize that their goals are attainable, no matter what the path looks like getting there! Our goal is to ensure all experiences are enjoyable and help campers realize their full potentials by reaching new heights of social interaction and independence.

Is Adventure Right for my Camper?

Q: “Adam’s Camp Adventure sounds great, but is it possible for my camper?”

A: Parents and caregivers often question if their camper should enroll in Adventure or Therapy activities. We are here to help provide clarity and answer your questions. Below is a list that provides you guidance on what to expect from Adventure Camp. The more honest you are in providing information about your camper, the better we can ensure they have a positive experience in the correct camp for their individual needs.

We have programs to fit almost any circumstances, but in order for your camper to maximize their Adventure experience, we need an in-depth view into who your camper is, their struggles, activities they excel in, daily routines, etc. If the criteria below does not sound like it fits your camper’s specific needs, then we encourage you to check out our therapy side of camp or give us a call so we can discuss your questions and the best placement.

For many campers, especially those that are new, once you sign up for a particular camp, we will reach out to you and schedule either a face-to-face meeting or a virtual meeting that your camper and you will attend, so we can ensure that your selection is suited for your camper.

Camper Expectations

If you are unsure about whether your camper’s medical condition will affect their enrollment into Adams Camp Adventure, please call us and we can discuss. We can also direct you to resources that might better fit your camper’s needs.

Can Follow Directions

My camper can follow directions most of the time.

Can Dress & Eat Independently

My camper is able to dress themselves and needs minimal assistance with food. (Our staff can cut up food if needed, but we do not offer the option for pureeing food.)

Can Practice Regular Hygiene

My camper can use the bathroom, take a shower and practice dental hygiene with or without assistance. We have staff that can assist campers with these daily regimens. However, if your camper is completely incontinent and cannot at least attempt these activities or cannot stand unassisted, please take a look at the options that Can Practice Regular Hygiene. therapy camp has to offer.

No Major Behavior Issues

My camper does not have any major behavioral issues. Our first priority at Adam’s Camp Adventure is to make sure that everyone feels safe. If you have a camper that has combative behavioral issues or requires direct one-on-one care, please refer to Adam’s Camp Therapy Camp.

No Medical Conditions Requiring Immediate Life Saving Intervention

As part of our goal to maximize safety for our campers, we cannot accept campers that have medical conditions which could result in immediate life saving interventions, such as diabetes or other life threatening conditions. Sometimes campers that experience “life threatening” medical episodes (such as new onset seizures or other events that have required your camper to be hospitalized each time the event has occurred) might not be suitable for Adam’s Camp Adventure.

Adam’s Camp Adventure Provides

All of our experiences are based on the age of your camper. When you provide your camper’s age during online registration, ONLY the appropriate Adventure experiences will be provided to your camper.

Low Camper-to-Staff Ratio

For every 5 campers, we have 1 counselor and 2 volunteers. This ratio allows us to easily coordinate activities while maximizing safety. However, this is not a one-on-one camp for any adventure. If your camper requires one-on-one, please check the options for therapy camp  or feel free to contact us.

Meals for Campers

We provide meals for all the campers. However, if your camper has special dietary restrictions, then you may be required to provide meals. Adams Camp Adventure offers some dietary options such as: gluten free, dairy free, etc., so if your camper has specific restrictions, please be sure to include that in the questionnaire you fill out as part of registration. That enables us to determine if we can provide meals to fit your camper’s needs or if you will need to provide their meals.

Support for Self-Sufficiency

Our staff is trained to help fairly independent campers tap into their abilities. We encourage campers to be more self-sufficient and complete tasks and activities themselves. But rest assured, they are always supervised during activities to ensure their safety.

A Break for Parents

For all Adventure experiences, campers will be dropped off and picked up at the same location. This means that you are not required to be on-site for any of our experience packages. However, if there are situations that threaten camper safety due to the actions of your camper, then pick up before the completion of an experience may be required.

What Campers Learn in our Adventure Programs

Campers and Parents Love Adam’s Camp

I never have a problem leaving Rachel since she is so warmly welcomed.

Diane Greenlaw

Those counselors are incredible human beings. They give it there all and seem so excited to meet the campers. I always want to cry happy tears. My daughter looks so forward to this all year long!

Kelley Elliot

I always have fun dropping Annie off! She can never wait to get rid of me! That's good!

Sherry Bruff

We could look around and help our son set up his space and make sure he was all set. They knew some of his interests and immediately started engaging him.

Jen Trotter

Great way for our special kiddos to learn to spread their independent wings in a fun and safe environment. He said "best camp EVER" when I picked him up

Joanne Sherman

Dusty accomplished ZIPLINE! Yeah, a goal he had wanted to do for awhile.

Dustin Scrage

Eric is much more verbal and confident around others and in situations where he doesn't always know what will be happening. This is his 3rd year and each year he comes back more self assured and happily makes decisions for himself.

Crystal Nordholm

They got her to go on a hike!! She never hikes! And she loved it!!

Dee Dee Nuss

Counselors went above and beyond caring for and encouraging the campers. The smiles, the pictures, the different activities are awesome!

Cheri Bjornsrud

Wonderful volunteers, excellent professionals and wide variety of activities. Camp fosters independence for campers and parents who often don't trust others caring for their special need children as well as we would. The excellent counselors, the ratio of campers to staff and volunteers is amazing. The activities are diverse to appeal to all kids.

Melissa Brill

I would emphasize the great way the campers are able to meet new friends, learn how to manage in the community, learn new activities that they don't try at home, learn leadership and most of all gain independence. Your camper gets to be a kid at Adam's camp, just like everyone else. There are no "differences" at camp.

Karen Kullby

Adam's Camp gives children with special needs the opportunity to have the "typical" summer camp experience, in a safe and nurturing environment.

Amy Cawlfield

Take comfort that their child is being well cared for, so relax and enjoy a few days on your own, or with others that may not get as much attention

Bryan Strait

Knowing your child is safe and having fun makes the quiet time an opportunity for renewal and reinvigoration.
