Inclusion & Safety

Our camps prioritize inclusion and safety, creating a supportive environment where every camper is celebrated for who they are and feels secure to explore, grow, and thrive.

Safety is One of Our Top Priorities

To ensure that all campers are safe:

  • You can choose whether you would like your camper’s images used and/or published.
  • We do extensive background checks on our staff and check their references.
  • Each staff member signs a Code of Conduct as well as a Social Medial Waiver.
  • We are also licensed by the state of Colorado, who sends a representative to camp each summer to ensure that all licensing requirements are met.
  • Your camper’s personal information, contained in the forms you complete, is protected by HIPPA.

Background Checks

  • All counselors go through the Colorado Adult Protective Services check, Intellicorp background check, are fingerprinted and run through the databases of the CBI and FBI every five years. Before being hired for the first time, they must pass a check by the Colorado Office of Early Childhood Background Investigation Unit through the Confidential Child Abuse/Neglect Database. Counselors must also read and sign-off on PASA Orientation Documents, Incident Reporting and Child Abuse Reporting.
  • All therapists and nurses go through the Intellicorp background check and must be licensed in the state of Colorado.
  • All volunteers and childcare workers go through the Intellicorp background check.
  • All Sibling Coordinators go through the Intellicorp background check, and are fingerprinted and run through the databases of the CBI and FBI every five years. Before being hired for the first time, each must pass a check by the Colorado Office of Early Childhood Background Investigation Unit through the Confidential Child Abuse/Neglect Database; they must be CPR certified.

Camper to Staff Ratios

In Adventure Camp, where campers are out in the community in addition to being on-site at Snow Mountain Ranch, we staff 1 counselor and 2 volunteers for every 5 campers. In a group of 30 campers, that equates to 6 counselors and 12 volunteers.

In Therapy Camp, ratios of staff to campers vary based on the camp.

  • Early Start – 4 campers and 4 therapists plus 2 volunteers
  • Pathfinders and Pathblazers – 5 campers and 5 therapists plus 2 volunteers
  • Trailblazers – 5 campers and 4 therapists plus 2 volunteers
  • Pioneers – 8 campers and 3 therapists plus 2 volunteers
  • Sibling Camp – the ratio for young siblings is 1 staff for every 3 children and the ratio for middle and big siblings is 1 staff for every 5 children

Camper Safety During Activities

While we encourage our campers to push themselves by trying new activities, we make every effort to keep them safe during the activities. Whether rafting and wearing life preservers or rock climbing while wearing a harness and helmet, each camper is protected while enjoying a new experience.
