Camper Spotlight: Liam 🌟

Liam has attended Adams camp almost every summer since 2014. It has become a vacation tradition, with Adams camp family pictures making up Christmas cards 🎄 and the week anticipated year-round. He have made lifelong friends and countless memories along the way.

Our family learned about Adams camp at the National Down Syndrome Congress Convention in Denver in 2013. We figured we’d give it a shot the next summer, maybe Liam would make some progress and at worst we would get to escape the Texas heat and spend a week in the mountains! And make progress he has. ✨

Liam learned to jump with both feet at Adams camp, was encouraged to embrace being a leader, faced and conquered fears, danced and sang and had fun. 🎉 As Liam has transitioned from Therapy to Adventure camp, he is learning independence and self-reliance while continuing to have a blast.

He always experiences a ‘step-change’ after camp, whatever it may be, which continues to be noticeable at home. As if we needed another reason to keep coming back, did I mention the family gets to spend a week in the mountains? 🌄

What is Mountain Therapy Camp? 🤔

Each week-long therapy family camp provides intensive, multi-disciplinary therapies for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as activities and support for parents and siblings to unwind and re-energize in a supportive and caring environment. 💓

Campers begin the transition from relying completely on therapists and care providers to taking risks, making “supported” mistakes, problem solving 💭, and learning how to effectively work toward independence.
