Mike Kavanagh

Board Member

Mike commitment to community service runs deep. In addition to joining the Board of Directors for Adam’s Camp in 2018, Mike previously served as a Director for 11 years with Lupus Colorado, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing support, education and training to those affected by Lupus. Additionally, Mike led the Western Pension & Benefits Council (WPBC), an educational and professional organization in the western United States for the dynamic field of employee benefits. Over his 14 years in the organization’s leadership, Mike served as President of WPBC at both the local and national levels.

Mike currently provides practical solutions to complex compliance and legal problems as Head of Compliance for the Empower Retirement (formerly called the Great-West Life and Annuity Insurance Company). He leads the company’s compliance efforts across a wide range of regulations, including broker-dealer, group life insurance distribution, regulatory audit and the company’s Conflicts of Interest Compliance Program. Mike also contributes to other company initiatives, including advising on product development and distribution, fraud prevention, risk management, fiduciary risk, anti-money laundering and the company’s Code of Conduct and Ethics.

A Colorado native, Mike earned his Juris Doctorate (J.D.) and his Master of Law in Taxation (LL.M.) from the University of Denver College of Law, where he was a Jackson Scholar. He received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Colorado at Boulder, majoring in finance. In his leisure time, Mike enjoys golf, hiking and standing on the sidelines of his son’s multitude of sporting events.
