I can’t decide whether to send my older children to Sibling Camp or not.

We take great measures to divide the siblings by age group. We are committed to making this a fun experience for all. To this end, we ensure the Younger Siblings are in an activity-based program and not just childcare. Likewise, we respect that teenagers DO NOT want to be grouped with younger children. While we might occasionally mix our Little and Middle Sibs, we separate our Older Siblings into their own programming.

How do we arrange lodging while up at camp?

Lodging is the responsibility of each family. Families may elect to stay onsite at Snow Mountain Ranch – YMCA of the Rockies in Granby, CO. A link will be sent to each family who indicated they are staying onsite. These are typically sent around the beginning of April, two days prior to opening to the general public. Families may also choose to stay offsite in the neighboring towns of Granby, Tabernash, Fraser, or Winter Park for an additional offsite facility fee. These can be scheduled at any time

We went to camp last year and the goals we wrote in our paperwork were not the goals the team worked on. Why did this happen?

It is our goal to come to agreement on goals during the pre-camp call. The team may feel the goal is too lofty for a 5-day therapy week. Or they may feel there is an integral step that your child needs prior accomplishing the goal. We never limit a child, however, and if they meet their initial goal during the week, they are challenged further by increasing the rigor of the goal.

What is a pre-camp call?

A therapist from your child’s team will contact you approximately two weeks prior to your week of camp. This provides you the opportunity to update information about your child and come to a mutual agreement on the goals that should be worked on at camp.

I really want my child to get potty trained, learn to read, improve their handwriting, and learn to ride a bike. Can these be our camp goals?

Camp goals are functional. We do not work on academic goals. We do work on the skills necessary to perform practical tasks. This may involve hand grip, balance and coordination, stability, intentional and purposeful communication and movement, behavior, etc. While we take campers to the bathroom on a regular and scheduled basis, we do not potty train in 5 days.

How do we decide on goals for camp?

Goals can be written in a variety of ways. One option is to continue working on goals your child’s current therapists are working on. Another way is to get a fresh perspective and ask the Adm’s Camp therapist that contacts you prior to camp for their opinion based on the skills profile you provide in your paperwork. Yet another way is to figure out what would make your family’s life easier; what interferes with your child’s ability to progress.

How are Trailblazer and Pioneer teams therapeutic if the campers are always involved in activities?

Many of our campers need assistance generalizing the skills they learned in structured settings to the real world. We often find our campers perform various activities of daily living somewhat independently at home, yet not in a variety of settings. Our policy is to fade cueing throughout the week and challenge campers to practice their skills in an unpredictable world.

Am I guaranteed the week of camp for which I applied

We do our best to accommodate the week our applicants apply. As stated previously, we strive to find the best fit for your child. While not often, this may mean changing weeks to be grouped with children with similar profiles.
