Camp Nurse Job Summary
The Camp Nurse is responsible for providing basic health assessments and first aid treatments to campers with special needs and our staff in the Adventure Camp program. On occasion, the Camp Nurse also provides assessment and first aid to our Therapy Program. The Camp Nurse’s responsibilities run from Sunday through Friday during summer camp and can include select special trips.
Credentials & Experience
- Minimum age of 21 years, with experience
- Registered Nurse licensed to practice in the state of Colorado
- Active CPR and first aid certifications
- Experience with youth and young adults, preferably with those with developmental disabilities
- Must be in good physical and mental health; candidate should be capable of lifting, pivoting, and transferring at least 40-50 pounds safely and with good balance
- Candidate must have demonstrated ability to adapt in changing environments
Camp Cook Job Summary
The Camp Cook is responsible for preparing meals and stocking pantries for Adam’s Camp staff, campers and volunteers during a five-week period at Snow Mountain Ranch in Granby, CO. Cook will have total responsibility for securing adequate supplies and equipment to complete meal preparations either through direct purchases or through a coordinated ordering process. This position will also oversee cleaning and maintenance tasks required for the kitchen and dining areas. The camp week runs Sunday – Friday.
Credentials & Experience
- Minimum 6 months experience planning and preparing meals for groups larger than 50.
- Experience must include leadership of staff personnel and direct customer contact.
- Candidate must have demonstrated ability to adapt in changing environments.
Camp Photographer Job Summary
The Camp Photographer/Social Media Expert is responsible for the daily documentation of the happenings at Adam’s Camp for two programs: Adventure Camp and Therapy Camp. The camp week runs Sunday – Friday. Accommodations and most meals are provided.
NOTE: Employee must provide all photography equipment necessary for the position.
Responsibilities
Programs take place at YMCA of the Rockies – Snow Mountain Ranch, located 2 hours from Denver. Camp Photographer must secure reliable transportation to and from camp.
- Write and produce short video stories for social media/website
- Responsible for taking digital photos, selecting and uploading them to an online gallery
- Photograph each Adventure Camper as they arrive at check-in on Sunday evening
- Follow shooting schedule and meet key deadlines
- Select the best photos each day, save photos on a hard drive for Adam’s Camp records, and upload them to an online gallery for families to view and enjoy
- Create a slideshow with music, highlighting the best photos of the week to be shared with families at the Adventure Camp Family Gathering at the close of the camp week
- Provide a clear example of the Adam’s Camp culture and values with parents, volunteers, siblings, campers and staff
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- A genuine love for working with people
- The ability to consistently organize, name and store photos
- Must be highly organized
- Must have excellent verbal communication skills
Credentials & Experience
- Must be able to show a portfolio of photographs demonstrating skill level
- A demonstrated ability to work with youth and young adults
- Experience with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred
Childcare Coordinators
Childcare Coordinators are needed to supervise children ages 2-18 with special needs. Supervision entails 2 hours on the first day of camp for the Family Welcome Barbecue and again 3 days later for 3 hours to manage and oversee Parent Night Out. This position requires a Special Educator with extensive knowledge and experience working with children with moderate to severe needs. Knowledge of various behavioral strategies is essential.
The ideal candidate is local to Grand County as there is no lodging provided for this position.
Sibling Camp Coordinators
The Sibling Coordinator position is divided into three groups; Older, Middle and Little. The Older Sibs groups consists of children ages 12+. The Middle Sibs group is comprised of children ages 6-11. And the Little Sibs group contains children from birth to 5. The Little Sibs group is further divided into ages 0-2 and 3-5. The Sibling Coordinators receive meals and lodging for the week of their assigned camp week. They stay in the main cabin with their volunteer staff.
Experience: At least 2 years related experience working with children
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this position is a regular education teacher or someone who has knowledge and experience working with each age group. The Sibs Coordinators supervise the campers through various activities such as canoeing, swimming, rock climbing and zipline, to name a few. Even the Little Sibs are packed into wagons and attend most of the activities.
Responsibilities
This position is also responsible for supervising their volunteer staff, typically consisting of middle and high school age adolescents. Once the camp day is over, the Sibling Coordinators will oversee their volunteer staff performing kitchen duty. The Sibling Volunteers are responsible for assisting the camp cook with daily meal prep.
Evenings
Evenings are spent participating in various night time activities and duties, including the Therapy Camp Welcome Campfire, Adventure Camp Dance & Talent Show, and babysitting for Parent Night Out.
Little Sibs Coordinator
Preschool teacher preferred. Will consider college student.
The Little Sibs Coordinator will be in charge of the typical siblings, ages 0-5, of our therapy campers. This play-based group will be subdivided into the infant/toddler group and preschool/kindergarten group. The ideal candidate will be either a college student intending to go into the education field or an experienced teacher. Responsibilities will include assisting the campers with the scheduled activities and supervising the adolescent volunteers. Activities will include: arts & crafts, mini-golf, tubing hill, scavenger hunt, nature walk and swimming at the Fraser Rec Center.
Middle Sibs Coordinator
Elementary teacher preferred
The Middle Sibs Coordinator will oversee the typical siblings, ages 6-11, of our therapy campers. This position requires an experienced teacher. The intermediate sibling group will participate in daily discussions designed to build self-esteem, self-advocacy and self-realization around their role in the family with a sibling with special needs. A licensed social worker may join the sibs to explore the dynamics of a special family. Continuing conversations throughout the week will be conducted by the sibling coordinator. Supervision of adolescent volunteers is also part of this position. Intermediate sibling activities will include arts & crafts, canoeing, wall climb, low ropes challenge course, archery, swimming at the Fraser Rec Center, tubing hill, the waterfall hike, the homestead, golf and Kiva.
Older Sibs Coordinator
Middle/high school teacher preferred
The older sibling group (ages 12-17) will be a combination of discussions and activities. Also comprised of the typical siblings of our therapy campers, these teens will be encouraged to actively participate in deeper and higher-level daily discussions around their role in building and maintaining life-long relationships with their sibling with special needs, with the support of an experienced teacher, licensed social worker, and trained college volunteer. The Older Siblings Coordinator will manage this group, including the campers and volunteers. This position also requires an experienced teacher. Activities will include zip line, low ropes challenge course, archery, arts & crafts, wall climb, swimming at the Fraser Rec Center, excursion to Grand Lake, tubing hill and the waterfall hike.
