What does it mean to be a Counselor?
Adventure Counselor’s play some of the most important roles at camp. You are given a set of directions for camper experiences and your goal is to attend all activities while ensuring you are closely following schedules.
Sign Up and Apply Online
For Adventure, you can sign up for any of the three options: Adventure Camp, Adventure Weekends and/or Adventure Road Trips. As you register, options will be provided for you to apply for as many weeks as you would like.
Face-to-Face Interview
For the next phase of the application process, the Adventure Programs Manager will contact you and schedule a face-to-face or video chat meeting. The first goal of this interview is to determine if you would be a great fit for this position. As part of the interview process, you will be asked a series of questions that highlight your leadership qualities, organizational skills, ability to follow instructions, etc. These questions are used to assess what Adventure roles you would be best in, based on our expertise.
Wages
Wages are based on your level of experience and credentials, and are calculated depending on the number of days worked for all three options outlined above.
Adventure Lead Counselor
As a Lead Counselor, you will be responsible for overseeing the wellbeing of all of your campers, volunteers and co-counselor(s). One of your most important roles is to stay as organized and prepared as possible, so the schedule is upheld and campers are never late for their activities.
As part of your job, you are responsible for administering medications and documenting medication administered to your campers while directing your co-counselor(s) to temporarily mange the campers when you are giving medication to campers. These medications are primarily ones that are placed on the skin or taken orally. You will also be responsible for helping same-sex campers that need assistance showering, and using the restroom. No volunteers will ever be responsible for handling any type of bodily fluids, including accidents that require bed linens and/or clothes to be changed.
Adventure Co-Counselor
As a Co-Counselor, your role is to support the Lead Counselor. You will carry out tasks such as oversight of food preparation, morning and nightly routines for campers, and other organization details that are asked of you from the Lead Counselor. You will also be responsible for helping same-sex campers that need assistance showering, and using the restroom. No volunteers will ever be responsible for handling any type of bodily fluids, including when accidents require bed linens and/or clothes to be changed.
Adventure Float Counselor/Adventure Assistant
A Float Counselor/Adventure Assistant is one of our most selective positions. You are responsible for providing supplies to cabins throughout camps when needed, as well as other logistical duties that the onsite Adventure Programs Manager assigns. There may also be situations in which Counselors are handling individual camper behavioral difficulties and they need you to assist, until the situation has been resolved.
This position is only available for Adventure Summer Camp and is crucial to providing a positive and successful camper experience. This is not a position that you will be able to apply for. Instead, after the interview process, applicants will be contacted with an offer for this particular position.
