Karel Horney
Founder and Director Emeritus
Karel is a Denver native who received her BA in Education and English from the University of Northern Colorado in 1970. After teaching elementary-age kids for four years, she and her husband Bob began their family of five with triplet boys in 1980. The loss of one son and the diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy for Adam led Karel to her career and passion when she founded Adam’s Camp in 1986.
Karel has received numerous awards for service for her work with Adam’s Camp and has continued to cultivate her leadership gifts by serving on various boards. She is currently Chair of the Board at Colorado Community Church.
In her free time, Karel loves to cycle and walk and spend time with her family, friends, and her adopted triplet grandkids, Ava, Benson, and Delano.
