Since 1993, one of Adam’s Camp’s most important fundraisers is the annual Fall Recognition Dinner. This event gives Adam’s Camp the opportunity to honor a person or family who has been extraordinary in their support of Adam’s Camp, and to enjoy a fun evening. Past honorees of this dinner include Sally Gart, Janet Elway and Kevin Taylor.
This year we had the privilege of recognizing Laura Johnson
for her incomparable commitment and contributions in support of Adam’s Camp for more than 25 years.
At Glenmoor Country Club on Sunday, November 20th the room was awash in joy and gratitude as Adam’s Camp celebrated their thirtieth anniversary and honored Laura Johnson, for her years of commitment to the organization as a camper parent, board member, staff member and donor. In addition to enjoying a terrific dinner, guests were treated to a thirtieth anniversary video, a lively auction and moving tributes. There were few dry eyes in the room as parent Jim Brennan told what Adam’s Camp has meant to his family. Adam’s Camp founder Karel Horney read a poem about Laura then Laura herself spoke about her family and her connection to Adam’s Camp which began when her son Erik first attended camp as a toddler. Laura credits Adam’s Camp with helping Erik, now 29, reach his potential as a young man with Down syndrome. Funds raised during the event will be used to provide scholarships for campers and families to attend Adam’s Camp in 2017 and beyond.
